Chelsea are preparing to sell Alejandro Garnacho this summer with reports suggesting the Argentinian’s exit from Stamford Bridge is ‘close’. The 22-year-old only joined the Blues in a €46.2 million deal from Manchester United in August 2025, but the west London club are ready to let him leave on a permanent deal this summer. AS Roma have been keen to negotiate a loan deal, but the Giallorossi cannot meet Chelsea’s demands.

Widespread reports later verified by Transfermarkt suggest Chelsea are close to reaching an agreement which will see Garnacho leave the club. There is interest from the Premier League, Serie A and LaLiga, as well as Saudi Arabia. However, Chelsea's insistence on his €50m price tag being met has been met with some reluctance, given that the Blues paid a lower fee only 11 months ago and he hasn't exactly improved.

Market value drop

The Argentinian was conspicuous by his absence as Xabi Alonso’s squad returning to training for the first day of pre-season. It later emerged that the club were working on finding a solution for Garnacho, who looks set to leave after being deemed surplus to requirements. His drop in market value, from €45m in August 2025 to his current €28m value, highlights his sharp decline over the past 12 months.

Xabi Alonso is keen to assemble a squad capable of competing on all fronts this season and Garnacho is not thought to be part of the new regime. He has not reported for pre-season training, which began on July 9, as he looks to negotiate a move away. Garnacho was left out of Argentina's World Cup squad and that omission has convinced the winger to find regular first-team football next season.

Garnacho arrived at Stamford Bridge after experiencing the ire of Manchester United fans, who were far from happy about his efforts to leave Old Trafford and general attitude away from the pitch. He showed some glimpses of promise under Enzo Maresca but soon found himself on the bench and struggled to rediscover his confidence.

Struggle for form

He registered just one Premier League goal in 28 outings last season, although he fared better in cup competitions – bagging four goals in the EFL Cup and another two in the FA Cup. Chelsea are expected to move for a left-winger or a player capable of playing as an inside forward this summer.

Morgan Rogers is on their shortlist, while Juventus starlet Kenan Yildiz and Bournemouth's Junior Kroupi being monitored. The sale of Garnacho this summer would go some way to funding moves elsewhere, although it remains to be seen if they receive the fee they want for the out-of-favour forward.
