Sevilla sign Robbie Ure – Young goalscorer just outside all-time record for Scottish strikers

Sevilla announced the signing of Scottish striker Robbie Ure on Tuesday, when the LaLiga club confirmed a deal until 2031 for the player. Ure makes the move to Sevilla from Swedish club Sirius for a reported up-front transfer fee of €6.5 million, with a following €2.5m in potential add-ons. The deal makes the Glasgow-born goalscorer Sirius’ most expensive sale of all time and could become the twelfth highest fee Sevilla have paid for a centre forward. “I want to say thank you so much to all of you guys for all the support that you’ve given me, for all the love that you’ve shown me since I arrived at the club last March,” said Ure in a message to Sirius fans, following the confirmation of his move. “I’ve enjoyed every second playing in front of all of you and yeah, I think it’s a beautiful journey that we’ve been on together these last 15 months.”

While Ure’s transfer to Spain’s top-flight is unlikely to attract the attention of too many European football fans, it is a significant fee for a Scottish player. If Sevilla end up paying the add-ons and the final transfer fee comes to €9m, it will make Ure the eleventh most expensive Scottish striker in the history of the sport. As we can see in the graphic below, Ure’s move to Sevilla will sit just below Ross Stewart’s €9.3m move to Southampton in 2023 and above Steven Fletcher’s €7.2m move to Wolves in 2010. Considering the player is only 22 years of age and bagged an impressive 31 goals and seven assists in just 50 games in Sweden, there’s every chance that he’ll go on to greater things at Sevilla and could earn an even larger transfer fee in the years to come.
Ure’s move to Sevilla comes as a major transfer profit for Sirius, who signed the young Scot just one year ago from Rangers for little more than €750k. Despite an impressive record in the Rangers’ youth teams, where Ure scored 23 goals and a further 10 assists in 50 games, he made only three senior appearances for the Ibrox club before departing. Somewhat ironically, Rangers were heavily linked with a move to resign the young talent this summer, alongside Galatasaray and Genoa, but the in-demand striker opted for a move to Sevilla and will now look to make the most of his time in Spain as he begins the next chapter of his career.
