Paris Saint-Germain are edging closer to agreeing a deal to sign Ferran Torres from Barcelona. It’s understood that Spain’sWorld Cup hero has informed Barca of his desire to embrace a new opportunity with the Champions League holders and reunited with former national team boss, Luis Enrique. The LaLiga club wanted Torres to extend his contract but they are in a difficult position as he’s entered the final year of his deal and they will reluctantly sell. PSG view Torres as an excellent market opportunity due to his contractual situation and they’ve submitted an offer of around €50 million, which is €5m lower than his market value on Transfermarkt.

The two clubs are expected to finalise an agreement in the coming days with personal terms already sorted. On a promotional tour of the United States last week to capatilse on his increased reputation after scoring the winning goal in the World Cup final, Torres said: “I have a contract at Barcelona but in football you never know,” said Torres: “I’m just waiting to make the right decision, but I don’t know yet.” It will be a significant deal and it could have major ramifications for movement on other significant deals this summer.
Ferran Torres set to join PSG
It’s a shrewd piece of business from PSG as it would have cost them around €70/80m to sign Torres, if not for his contract expiring next summer. The 26-year-old is also extremely versatile and can play across the front three after transforming from a winger to predominantly a centre-forward across the last few years. Enrique’s attacking options are stacked at PSG with Maghnes Akliouche already arriving this summer but Torres’ imminent arrival could expedite the departure of Bradley Barcola – Liverpool and Arsenal are keen on the French international.
Meanwhile, Torres’ departure is a blow for Barca as he was an important squad player, who posted good attacking numbers last season. The Spain star scored 21 goals in 49 appearances for Hansi Flick’s men and his exit is expected to accelerate Barca’s pursuit of Julián Alvarez. The Argentinian international is Barca’s priority target this summer but Atlético Madrid are determined not to sell to their domestic rivals. Atleti already rejected bids this summer for the €120m valued star but it could develop into one of the biggest stories of the final few weeks of the transfer window.
