Spain booked their place in the World Cup final with a hugely impressive 2-0 win over France in their semi-final in Dallas. Didier Deschamps’ men were many people’s favourites to win the tournament but their brilliant attack was completely thwarted by Spain. After Lamine Yamal was fouled by Lucas Digne, Mikel Oyarzabal calmly slotted home from the penalty spot before Pedro Porro doubled their advantage in the second half.

It was more pain for the French at the hands of Spain after losing in the Euro 2024 final and Luis de la Fuente’s men will now face either England or Argentina in the final on Sunday. Incredibly, Spain have now kept six clean sheets in seven games and only conceded one across the whole World Cup. There was another incredible stat from the game with Fabián Ruiz now unbeaten in 49 appearances for Spain and we’ve ranked the longest international unbeaten runs from players across history.

Longest international unbeaten runs

If Spain emerge victorious in the final then Ruiz will extend his record to a half-century of unbeaten games for Spain in the biggest game in football. The PSG midfielder debuted for his country against Faroe Islands in 2019 and he’s yet to be on the losing side, winning 34 and drawing 15 games. Ruiz, however, doesn’t hold the all-time record for longest unbeaten streaks in international football as that belongs to another Spaniard, Carlos Marchena.

The Valencia stalwart went a remarkable 57 games unbeaten for Spain between 2007 and his final game for his country in 2011. Ruiz will equal Aldair in second place, if they win the final, with the Brazilian famously embarking on a 50 game unbeaten record for his country. Some famous faces occupy the top the top ten list including Xavi, Zinédine Zidane and Casemiro.
