Celtic have agreed a deal to sign Danish striker Kasper Høgh, marking one of the biggest deals in the club’s history. Høgh, 25, is set to complete his transfer to join the Scottish Premiership champions in the coming days after the Bhoys met FK Bodø/Glimt’s asking price of €12.9 million plus add-ons, per Sky Sports. Høgh has already agreed personal terms over a four-year contract, with the option of a further year. He has received permission to undergo a medical in Glasgow this weekend.

Manager Martin O’Neill confirmed a deal was close to being finalised ahead of their pre-season friendly with AC Milan: “Yes, I’m hoping that that will happen. I think there’s a good chance of it. But until someone’s actually signed and sealed, there might be things still up in the air. But it’s certainly progressing,” the Northern Irishman said. He has quickly found a replacement for fans’ favourite Daizen Maeda, who has joined newly-promoted Ipswich Town in a deal worth €11.7m after four years at Parkhead.
Høgh deal only trumped by Jota
While reports suggest that Høgh's switch will be a club-record deal for Celtic, Transfermarkt understands this is not the case. The club's transfer record currently stands at €16.2m when Portuguese attacking midfielder Jota sealed his move to Celtic Park in 2022. The initial fee paid to Benfica was lower, but Celtic agreed to insert substantial add-ons into the deal that were later met – thus increasing the final figure to the record amount.

The add-ons as part of Høgh's deal have not yet been disclosed by either club. But the bonus clause combined with the €12.9m fee is not expected to surpass the Jota transfer fee. Instead, Høgh's deal will put him as the second-most expensive signing in Celtic's history – ahead of Arne Engels – once the add-ons are met.

In any case, it represents a significant outlay from Celtic's side on a player who has shot to prominence over the past 12 months or so. Høgh, who has a market value of €12m, scored 54 goals in 103 appearances for the Norwegian outfit since arriving from Stabæk in 2023 – including six goals in the Champions League last season.

The highest-ever fee received by an Eliteserien club is €20m, which Chelsea paid Lyn Oslo to sign John Obi Mikel in 2006. Sverre Nypan's transfer from Rosenborg to Manchester City is the next highest along with Albert Grønbaek's switch to Rennes at €15m, ahead of David Datro Fofana's €12m move from Molde to Chelsea in 2023. Høgh's deal including add-ons will likely take him into second place, although it is highly unlikely to exceed Mikel's record transfer.
