Manchester City’s spending is showing no signs of calming following Pep Guardiola’s summer exit. Having already forked out €135 million to sign Elliot Anderson, the Sky Blues are in the market for another midfielder and are close to sealing a big-money move for Lille wonderkid Ayyoub Bouaddi. The 18-year-old shone for Morocco at the World Cup this summer, and his camp have now reportedly reached an agreement on personal terms with Man City over a move this summer. A deal is also thought to be close between the two clubs.

Potentially heading the other way, Man City midfielder and 2024 Ballon d'Or winner Rodri is subject of huge interest from Barcelona and could leave the club this window. Bouaddi has a current market value of €80m, but, continuing with the trend of inflated fees this summer, a figure of around €100m is thought to be expected to get the deal over the line. When it comes to the most expensive U18 players of all time, how would this potential deal compare to previous records? Let’s take a look.
Most expensive U18 players ever
So the Bouaddi transfer for the fee being reported would not only break the record for the most expensive U18 player ever – it would obliterate it. The mooted €100m figure would be over double the previous record, which was set when Real Madrid paid Palmeiras €47.5m for striker Endrick. That will now move to second. In third and fourth are two more Los Blancos signings from Brazil with the Spanish giants paying €45m for both Vinicius Junior and Rodrygo when they were 18 years old.
Tottenham's €41.4m signing of midfielder Archie Gray from Leeds is fifth. Wolves paid €40m for striker Fábio Silva and that takes sixth position. Two Manchester United acquisitions take seventh and eighth, with Luke Shaw signed for €37.5m from Southampton and Wayne Rooney signed for €37m from Everton. Renato Sanches to Bayern Munich (€35m) and Estêvão to Chelsea (€34m) complete the top 10.
