Arsenal have reportedly won the race to sign highly-talented teenager Elijah Upson after he decided to leave arch-rivals Tottenham. It’s viewed as a major coup for the North London club with the added bonus of prizing an asset away from their main adversaries. The 18-year-old had been at Spurs’ academy since the age of eight but he’s decided to seek a new opportunity and that will be at Arsenal.

It’s understood that he’s agreed terms on a long-term contract with the Gunners, which will be announced next week, with Arsenal paying training compensation. Interestingly, the starlet’s father was a famous England international – Matthew Upson. The 21-time capped defender also came through at Arsenal and the youngster will be following in his fathers’ footsteps as he’s also a centre-back.
Upson played for Tottenham’s U18s, U19s and U21s last season and Spurs were keen to tie him down on a new deal. His decision to exit sparked huge interest in his services with Manchester City, Chelsea, Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund amongst his suitors. But Upson, who is a national 100 metre sprinting champion, has opted to make the short journey across North London.
