Arsenal eye Vinicius Junior deal – Real Madrid contract dispute opens door to shock move

Arsenal are reportedly exploring a sensational move for Real Madrid superstar Vinicius Junior, as his contract saga continues to rumble on without a resolution. Mikel Arteta is looking to put on the strongest title defence possible after ending their 22-year wait for the Premier League crown and Vini Jr has been earmarked as a potential elite signing for the Gunners.
According to The Athletic, the move has received approval ‘at all levels’ at the Emirates, suggesting they are preparing to test Madrid’s resolve. However, there have been no club-to-club talks and there is ‘no guarantee’ their initial interest materialises into a concrete offer. It is not yet known whether he would be keen on a move to Arsenal after spending almost his entire career in Spain.
Real Madrid contract situation
While Madrid are keen to keep him, the Brazilian's current deal expires on June 30, 2027 and can negotiate a pre-contract agreement as early as January 1, 2027, putting the LaLiga giants in a difficult position where a sale might be considered. So far, all attempts to convince him to sign fresh terms have either stalled or been rejected and Madrid are not prepared to lose him for nothing next summer, given that they will have to pay a substantial loyalty bonus for the 2026/27.
The 26-year-old, who has a market value of €140 million, has been linked with an exit from the Santiago Bernabeu for some time. Speculation linking him with a mega switch to the Saudi Pro League failed to produce a concrete bid, while his falling out with former head coach Xabi Alonso played a part in the Spaniard's departure last season. On several occasions, Vini Jr has threatened to leave following incidents of racial abuse directed to him from fans of opposing teams.

Vini Jr has spent almost his entire career in Spain, joining Madrid in 2018 from Flamengo and has made 375 total appearances, registering 128 goals and 100 assists. Coming off the back of a stellar World Cup display where he scored four goals for Brazil, the winger also registered 16 goals and six assists in LaLiga, with another five goals and eight assists in the Champions League. He totalled 36 goal contributions in all competitions in 2025/26 – Arsenal's left-wingers Gabriel Martinelli and Leandro Trossard managed 37 between them.
What Vinicius Junior could bring to Arsenal
Martinelli is expected to depart after bagging just one league goal while Trossard completed his move to Besiktas earlier this month. Arteta has already signed Christos Tzolis from Club Brugge in a €40m deal, but the Greece international, 24, is not expected to be considered an automatic starter. If Vini Jr decides to sign with Arsenal, it would almost certainly knock the new signing down in the pecking order.

Considering the sheer financial sums involved, it may prove a difficult deal to pull off, but one that would unquestionably cement Arsenal's position as a superpower. Vini Jr is renowned as one of the most-skilled dribblers in the world with the ball at his feet and his direct running causes problems for any defender. Yet there are hovering concerns over his work rate in the team, something that is a pre-requisite under new Madrid boss Jose Mourinho and also expected under Arteta.
Arsenal missed out on Morgan Rogers after he joined Chelsea last week and they were prepared to pay around €115m for the Aston Villa star. That proves they have funds to spend where necessary, and the chance to capture Vini Jr's signature would certainly tick that box. The opportunity to sign a player of his calibre does not come around every day and, while there may be some concerns over how his profile would fit within the squad, there can be no worries at all about his talent on the pitch.
