Torino have reached an agreement in principle to appoint Ignazio Abate as their new head coach, with the former AC Milan defender set to be confirmed on a two-year deal running until 2028.
According to Fabrizio Romano, via CalcioMercato, the decision was made following a meeting between sporting director Gianluca Petrachi and president Urbano Cairo on Monday, with further contacts expected between Monday evening and Tuesday to finalise the remaining details of the agreement.

Abate saw off competition from Ivan Juric, Eusebio Di Francesco and Alberto Gilardino to land the role.
Abate takes step up to Torino after Juve Stabia success
The appointment represents Abate’s first major leap forward after impressing as head coach for Juve Stabia last season, where he guided them to a 7th place finish in Serie B.
The 39-year-old made over 200 appearances for Milan as a player and won multiple Serie A titles at San Siro. He now takes on his most significant challenge yet, inheriting a Torino side that finished 12th last season and will be targeting a more consistent campaign in 2026/27.
