In a post-match interview after Liverpool’s Merseyside derby victory, Ibrahima Konaté (26) was asked about his future at Anfield, with his contract set to expire at the end of the season. Negotiations between the two parties are still ongoing, but no agreement has yet been reached with the Frenchman, currently set to be a free agent at the end of June.
Despite the fact that no agreement between the Premier League champions and the former Leipzig defender has yet been reached, discussions have been described as positive, with RMC Sport’s Fabrice Hawkins reporting that the centre back is edging close to signing a new deal.
Konaté ‘wants to stay’ at Liverpool
Speaking to BBC Sport after the Reds’ 2-1 victory at Everton, the French international defender said, “My future? There is a big chance that I am here next season. I want to stay, that’s what I’ve always wanted.” There have been doubts over Konaté’s future, with PSG and Real Madrid both reportedly interested in his services. However, The Telegraph reports he is set to sign a new contract.
