Priority to invest in playing squad – Yeovil owner

Yeovil Town are prioritising investment in the playing squad before they aim to buy back Huish Park, owner Prabhu Srinivasan says.

Srinivasan, who took over the National League club in June last year, previously said the Glovers wanted to take back ownership of the ground from South Somerset District Council by the end of this season.

However while the entrepreneur reiterated that owning the ground was a high priority, he said bolstering the team for 2026-27 was more important.

Yeovil's ground was sold to the council in May 2022 under previous owner Scott Priestnall, with the club leasing the stadium under the deal and retaining a buy back option until 2028.

"We want to get the stadium back as soon as we can but we're just doing the balancing act of where the money goes first," Srinivasan told BBC Radio Somerset.

"Right now the money has to go into building a team for the pitch."

Yeovil finished 16th this season, in a campaign which also saw three managers in the dugout before Billy Rowley was appointed in November.

Despite finishing just nine points above the relegation zone, Srinivasan said he was happy with the style of play Rowley had implemented.

"Goals per game has gone up by 20% which is fabulous and what I liked about Billy when I went and saw him at Walton was he's got a high tempo transition tactic and he creates an orchestra on the pitch," he said.

"Where we lacked might have been in the defence, which is something we'll try and fix this season."

A large number of players are out of contract this summer and Srinivasan said making the team stronger was key, as well as adding more support to Rowley's backroom staff.

"It's almost a clean slate, we want to make sure we augment Billy's requirements on the pitch with a reasonably big budget," Srinivasan said.
