Inter Miami CF only inaugurated its new home, the Nu Stadium at Miami Freedom Park, on April 4, 2026. A debut that was already marked by a 2-2 draw against Austin FC and by a symbolic moment: Lionel Messi’s first goal in the new stadium.
But the start did not stop there.
A week later, on April 11, the team returned home and repeated the score, this time against the New York Red Bulls. Two consecutive draws in a brand new stadium, in the midst of a process where the team still seems to be finding its rhythm.
And in this context, the movement arrived
On April 14, 2026, the club made official the departure of Javier Mascherano as head coach. The statement presented it as a resignation for personal reasons, closing a stage that had begun in November 2024, after the departure of Gerardo “Tata” Martino.

Mascherano had arrived as part of a project that also connected him with the club's recent past and with Lionel Messi, with whom he shared years at FC Barcelona and in the Argentina national team.
But the adjustment was not limited to his departure.
In the same statement, Inter Miami announced that Guillermo Hoyos will take over as head coach of the team for the next few matches.
An internal move that responds more to the need for immediate continuity than to a long-term restructuring.
Because the team is not only changing coaches, it is still in the process of settling into its new home.
And that's where this moment takes on another reading. Not as a break, but as an adjustment within a start-up that is still not stabilizing, even with the newly opened stadium.
