FC Barcelona restored its nine-point lead over Real Madrid in LaLiga on Wednesday with a 1-0 win over Celta Vigo, a match marked by injury scares to Lamine Yamal and João Cancelo before halftime.
Yamal was injured while converting a penalty goal that secured Barcelona’s eighth straight league win, continuing their strong push toward the LaLiga title.
The Spain international and the Portugal defender were both forced off with apparent muscle injuries, raising concerns ahead of the 2026 World Cup in June. There were no immediate updates on the severity of either injury.
Yamal scored from the spot in the 40th minute and immediately signaled to the bench that he was hurt. He dropped to the ground as teammates celebrated and appeared to grab the back of his left leg, suggesting a possible hamstring injury.
The young star left the pitch under his own power after receiving medical attention. He briefly spoke with head coach Hansi Flick on the sideline before heading down the tunnel to the locker room.
Cancelo had already exited in the 24th minute due to an apparent right leg injury, adding to Barcelona’s growing list of concerns.
The match was also briefly halted for around 15 minutes after Yamal's goal due to a medical emergency in the stands, where a fan required urgent attention.
Madrid had temporarily reduced the gap to six points after a 2-1 win over Alavés on Tuesday, but Barcelona’s victory restores their commanding position with six matches remaining in the Spanish league.
