Emiliano Martínez closed out 2025 with one of those recurring episodes in his career. The Argentine goalkeeper ended up confronting Arsenal fans after a costly mistake handed the Gunners the victory.

After the final whistle, as Arsenal players celebrated, Martínez was heading to the tunnel when a large group of fans waited to mock him over his goalkeeping error.
The supporters didn't hold back against the Argentine – ironically now with Aston Villa after being sold by Arsenal itself, the club where he spent much of his early career.
"You're not dancing now, are you?" could be heard from the stands.
Martínez first responded with a smile, but then turned back to reply and confront the fans. The situation didn’t escalate thanks to quick intervention from stadium security and Aston Villa staff.
Before this match, his team was riding a blistering run of 11 straight wins, but everything unraveled in the 48th minute. On a corner kick, Martínez’s poor exit left the ball perfectly teed up for Gabriel Magalhães, who nodded home the 1-0 opener unchallenged.
That goal opened the floodgates. Arsenal capitalized on the chaos for a dominant rout: Martín Zubimendi (52′), Leandro Trossard (69′), and Gabriel Jesus (78′) completed the thrashing under Mikel Arteta.
The statement win was massive for the Gunners, shaking off pressure from Manchester City and Aston Villa (second and third in the table). One single mistake from Martínez proved extremely costly.
"It's a beautiful night. It was a very tough match, as we knew it would be against a top-level opponent. The way we started the second half was incredible; we raised the intensity and were ruthless,” Arteta told Sky Sports.
"We know what we want in 2026.”
