After Manchester City booked an FA Cup final date against Chelsea with their 2-1 win over Southampton last Saturday, Pep Guardiola spoke of the need for his entire squad to contribute over the back end of this season. Starting on Monday against Everton at the Hill Dickinson Stadium, Pep Guardiola’s side face six matches in 20 days that will decide their fate this season. It will take an entire squad effort from Manchester City to successfully navigate the road ahead. There is no doubt about that. Looking at several of Manchester City’s squad players, they simply must lift their game to aid their team’s chase for the domestic treble.
Pep Guardiola knows that he will need his entire squad to contribute from this point onwards.
After Manchester City clinched their place in this season’s FA Cup final last weekend, Pep Guardiola told the media that he will need his entire squad to contribute across the final stages of this season. He explained: “That’s why I need them. The last weeks playing regularly the same team, we need the squad. We need all of them. Being better or worse doesn’t matter, we will need it.”
“With this amount of games every three days with the same players will not be possible. We have to manage good substitutions and everybody has to make a step forward. I will demand more and more and this is what we have to do.”
Several Manchester City squad players can offer more than they are currently giving.
Pep Guardiola knows that with a grueling run of fixtures ahead of his team, he needs his entire squad to contribute. We saw last weekend that Nathan Ake and John Stones are more than able to step up when required, as are James Trafford, Mateo Kovacic, Rayan Ait-Nouri, and Nico. However, there are three other players that simply must lift their game throughout the run-in for Manchester City to end this season on a high note.
Manchester City must get more out of Phil Foden, Savinho, and Omar Marmoush throughout the final stages of this season. Each of these three players has an important role to play in Manchester City’s fight to claim the domestic treble this season. Phil Foden needs to find form and confidence from somewhere. Savinho has to go from showing flashes of quality to actually impacting matches when called upon. Omar Marmoush needs to offer a lot more when given an opportunity to start up front. Pep Guardiola’s side likely cannot achieve their goals this season if those three players don’t improve in some capacity as this season enters its most pivotal stage.
Manchester City will need their entire squad to contribute across the final stages of this season. Pep Guardiola pointed this out last weekend. It the case of Phil Foden, Omar Marmoush ans Savinho they have to step up and answer their managers call. If they do, City may surge to the domestic treble this season.
