Bellingham, Gordon & Co. – The six England stars given market value upgrades after World Cup

Following the conclusion of the World Cup, Transfermarkt released a special World Cup market value update. As is usually the case with major international tournament updates, there were no downgrades. Instead, the update was based on upgrades for players who excelled at the tournament and to take into account transfer market activity this summer. Of the 99 beneficiaries, six came from the England squad that made it to the semi-finals where they were knocked out by Argentina. Let’s take a look who they were and how much value they rose by

The biggest winner of the entire update was midfielder Elliot Anderson. Now, despite having a decent World Cup and being an undisputed starter for England, the main reason for such a big rise in value was due to the huge €135 million fee Manchester City have paid to sign him this summer. Prior to the tournament, his value stood at just €75m, and while this would have likely slightly increased regardless, the huge upgrade comes down to what we have seen in the market. His new value is at €110m, which is still slightly less than the €135m paid for him, but clubs can overpay and we felt this represents the player’s true value at this moment in time. He could rise further in the next Premier League update in October should he start his Man City career strongly.

Jude Bellngham silenced all of his doubters this summer and was England’s best player at the World Cup. He scored a total of seven goals, which is more than any Englishman had ever previously scored at a single tournament. After a difficult season with Real Madrid, Bellingham’s market value had dropped to €130m pre-tournament, but that value now risen back up by +€30m to a new figure of €160m after his Three Lions heroics. He stands up on the biggest stage and is now the fifth most valuable player in the world.

Morgan Rogers started just one game for England at the World Cup, which was the semi-final defeat to Argentina in which he provided the assists for the Three Lions’ goal. However, he too has switched clubs for a mouth-watering fee this summer. Rogers swapped Aston Villa fro Chelsea in a €138m British record transfer and sees his market value rise accordingly by +€20m to a new figure of €110m. Again, this could rise further if he starts well at Stamford Bridge.

Yet another player who has already moved clubs this summer, Anthony Gordon signed for Barcelona in a €80m deal before the World Cup got started. He had a decent tournament, putting in particularly impressive performances against Mexico and DR Congo, but he underwhelmed in other matches. His market value was €65m previously, but that now rises to €80m in line with the fee paid which we feel represents fair value in the current market.

Many people questioned Djed Spence’s inclusion in Tuchel’s England squad, but he ended up being one of the shocks of the tournament – in a positive way. After exciting cameos from the substitute’s bench, he started England’s semi-final against Argentina and once again was on the Three Lions best players. he was a threat going forward and made a brilliant goal-saving tackle on Giulano Simeone. The Tottenham man’s market value rise by +€10m to a new figure of €40m

Finally Ezri Konsa, who started seven of England’s eight matches at the tournament gets a small rise of +€5m to take his new market value to €45m. He was a reliable servant for Tuchel and there has been been interest from top Premier League clubs already this summer including champions Arsenal.
