Al Hilal agree mega-money deal for Crysencio Summerville to beat Man United & Roma

Netherlands didn’t pull up any trees in their World Cup campaign, but some performances from winger Crysencio Summerville caught the eye. He scored a superb goal and justified Ronald Koeman’s decision to start him in their opening match. Summerville arrived at the tournament having just been relegated from the Premier League with West Ham, but he was always likely to leave after the club faced the drop. Manchester United had been seriously interested, whilst Roma were trying hard to strike a deal, but the latest reports suggest that Saudi Pro League side Al Hilal have now agreed a mega money transfer with the Hammers in the region of €80 million.

A long-term contract for Summerville l is also ready, pending the final authorisations being completed. Reports earlier this summer stated that it was expected to cost approximately €58m for West Ham to sanction the winger’s departure, with several clubs interested. Roma had made a bid worth €46m this month. Summerville’s contract at the London Stadium had been due to run until 2029, but it now looks like he could be heading to a new continent entirely. But what would Summerville bring to the Saudi pro League and where would he rank among the division's most expensive signings?

The only transfer in the history of the Saudi Pro League that will be more expensive than the mooted €80m Al Hilal are willing to pay for Summerville would be when the same team bought Brazilian superstar Neymar for €90m from Paris Saint-Germain back in 2023. The Dutchman will move to second on the all-time record signings list for the league. He will move ahead of Jhon Durán, who moved from Aston Villa to Al Nassr for €77m. We have become accustom to the Saudi Pro League spending big, but this would be another statement of intent.

What would Crysencio Summerville to Saudi Pro League?
The 24 year old struggled initially in East London following his €29.3m move from Leeds in 2024. In his first season (2024/25), he scored just one Premier League goal, provided just one assist and started just seven games. Even last season, he didn't start the campaign fantastically, managing just two goal contributions in the opening 20 league games. However, under Nuno Espírito Santo we began to see Summerville delivering on his potential. His pace, directness and trickery was proving too much for opposing defenders. In one particular match – an eventual 3-2 defeat to Chelsea in January – he was simply unplayable in the first half.
In the end, once again his numbers weren't fantastic last season – five goals and four assists in the league – but we saw enough to believe that the potential is there for Summerville to one day explode. West Ham would have been delighted with his opening performance from Netherlands, giving them further gravitas to push the asking fee up. It's a big risk at the reported price, but one that could just pay off.
