Eredivisie market values: Ismael Saibari remains at the top – Ricardo Pepi up by €5m

With just weeks to the World Cup, Transfermarkt has updated the market values of 477 Eredivisie players. At the very top remains Ismael Saibari from PSV Eindhoven. The midfielder saw his market value increase by €8m from €32m to €40m. Rounding up the top three are Mika Godts from Ajax (+€10m to €35m) and Saibari’s teammate and US men’s national team striker Ricardo Pepi (+€5m to €30m).

Let’s start at the top at Saibari. “Saibari was perhaps the best player in the Eredivisie this season,” Transfermarkt Area Manager Netherlands, Jesper Siereveld, said. “The Africa Cup of Nations winner was hugely important this season in the number 8, number 10 and striker roles, both in the Eredivisie and the Champions League. It will be interesting to see what transfer fee PSV will get for the Moroccan, given that he is ‘already’ 25. However, it seems a certainty that he will join the top three most expensive sales ever for the Eindhoven club.”

The same could be true for his teammate Pepi, even if a transfer to the Premier League is on hold for now. “Pepi saw a move to Fulham worth at least €35 million fall through because the two clubs couldn’t agree on the terms,” Siereveld said. “Meanwhile, the American continued to score goals. It will be interesting to see which club signs him (possibly after a successful World Cup) and for what price. One cause for concern: his susceptibility to injury.”
Eredivisie market values: Godts only bright spot at Ajax – Parrott AZ’s cash cow?
Meanwhile, at Ajax, it has been another frustrating season. “Godts was the bright spot in Ajax’s otherwise disappointing season,” Siereveld said. “Despite underperforming in the Champions League and missing out on a place in the Belgian World Cup squad, it is clear that the dribble-happy winger has made significant strides (in terms of effectiveness). There is still room for improvement here, but 29 goal contributions in the league are impressive. This is also reflected in the list of interested clubs.”

Another player that has drawn significant interest from around Europe is AZ Alkmaar’s Irish striker Troy Parrott. “One of AZ’s potential cash cows,” Siereveld said. “He could well become AZ’s most expensive sale ever this summer (the question is for how long; see Kees Smit). Parrott relies primarily on his goal-scoring instinct rather than his physical attributes. It is therefore debatable whether a move to LaLiga, for example, might not be a better option than a return to the Premier League.” Either way, Parrott’s market value is up by €3m from €22m to €25m, putting him in the same category as Feyenoord’s Givairo Read (unchanged), PSV’s Joey Veerman (-€2m to €25m), and his teammate Kees Smit (unchanged).
Just below that group sits Anis Hadj Moussa from Feyenoord. “It seems clear that the Algerian will be leaving this summer, and his next destination also appears to be set: Ligue 1,” Siereveld said. “With interest from clubs including Marseille and Lille, and given the earlier moves to that league by Igor Paixâo and Quinten Timber (both Marseille), a move to his home country seems a logical step. Feyenoord appear to be aiming for around €25-30m. It will be interesting to see whether new technical director Dévy Rigaux will be able to secure this; his track record at Club Brugge certainly promises well.

Eredivisie: Mats Rots among Twente players to watch
Among the young stars to watch is Twente Enschede defender Mats Rots. “Along with Ruud Nijstad (+€2m to €10m) and Bart van Rooij (+€1m to €10m), the players to watch at FC Twente this summer,” Siereveld said. “The attacking left-back is already being linked with PSV, but can the Eindhoven club afford him? That will be difficult if wealthy foreign clubs come calling. New technical director Erik ten Hag will undoubtedly be hoping for that. However, a move within the Netherlands might not be such a bad idea for the player.” Rots saw his market value increase by €2m from €10m to €12m.
How Transfermarkt market values work
The Transfermarkt market values are calculated, taking into account various pricing models. A major factor is the Transfermarkt community, whose members discuss and evaluate player market values in detail. In general, the Transfermarkt market values are not to be equated with transfer fees.
The goal is not to predict a price but an expected value of a player in a free market. Both individual transfer modalities and situational conditions are relevant in determining market values. Examples of this are listed below. Transfermarkt does not use an algorithm (you can find the detailed market value definition here).
