This is the position Pep Guardiola’s side wanted so desperately to be in entering the run-in. They overhauled Arsenal and are playing their best football of the season. There were stages across the 2025-26 season where it didn’t appear that this City side was ready to mount a meaningful Premier League title challenge. It seemed that this Manchester City side was building for next season when the penny would drop. However, the momentum has swung, and it does seem that this iteration of City is ready for what lies ahead across the final five games of the Premier League season.
Manchester City have their destiny in their own hands. As do Arsenal, given that both teams were level on 70 points, and on goal difference before Arsenal’s win over Newcastle. Pep Guardiola’s side would have dreamt to be in this position earlier this season. They are now in it, and it is exactly where they want to be with all to play for.
