Club Brugge suffered a huge set back in their bid to win their 20th Pro League title. The side lost 2-1 to title rivals Union St Gilloise on Sunday evening, a result that means the Brussels club now has a four point lead going into the rest of the play-offs. Club Brugge now have to beat Union in a few weeks time and hope that someone else can help them by taking points off of the defending champions.
Speaking to the media after the match, Club Brugge head coach Ivan Leko refused to give up on the title. The Croatian said ‘This hurts. It is a bitter pill to swallow. Four points is already ‘a nice difference’ for Union. But I can promise one thing: we won’t drop out. We will come back. We have lost a battle, but not the war’.
Next up for Club Brugge is a clash with KV Mechelen. The side have lost two of their three games in the play-offs so far and Club Brugge will be confident they can beat the side at home. Union will face Gent, another side who are yet to win in the play-offs this season.
