The San Jose Earthquakes defeated LAFC 4-1 in Week 8 of the MLS at BMO Stadium, but the visitors’ lopsided victory wasn't the only thing that caught people’s attention.

This match was special for Timo Werner and Son Heung-min as it marked their reunion as former Tottenham Hotspur teammates, albeit as rivals. For this reason, before the match, the German left a warm message for Son.

Werner expressed deep affection for his former teammate

This game was filled with intense excitement and anticipation among MLS fans, but it also brought back old memories for Tottenham supporters, as it pitted two stars from the Premier League team against each other: Timo Werner of the San Jose Earthquakes and Son Heung-min of LAFC. And they knew it.

For this reason, before taking the field, the former Leipzig player and Son exchanged big smiles and a warm hug. Shortly after, when asked about the reunion with the LAFC star with whomhe shared a locker room for a year and six months, Werner revealed:

"Before the match, we joked around a bit, and then we had a longer conversation. I'm really happy to see Son again. He was a great friend during our time at Tottenham,” explained the German (via Star News).

"I'm really happy that Son has found a place where he can play and have fun, and I'm also glad to see him again,” he added with noticeable affection and admiration.

Meanwhile, the first half of the match ended with a 0-0 score, though the visitors completely took control of the game at the start of the second half. Ousseni Boudda (53′, 80′) and Werner himself (56′) were responsible for crushing the home team. Ryan Porteous (58′) and Reid Roberts (75′) scored the other goals of the match via own goals.

"Today's goal was very meaningful. I'd been dealing with injuries and tough times. I'm proud to have come back under these circumstances, to have scored a goal, and to have contributed to the victory,” Werner said after the match, in which he recorded a goal and an assist.

Meanwhile, LAFC and Son are preparing to face the Colorado Rapids again at BMO Stadium on Wednesday, April 22, at 8:30 p.m. ET.

On the other hand, Werner and the San Jose Earthquakes will face Austin FC at PayPal Park that same day at 10:30 p.m. ET.
