The most valuable U19 midfielder in the world? Bouaddi’s World Cup is rewriting his price tag

The World Cup is often the perfect stage for young players to announce themselves to the world, and no player has so far grasped that opportunity better than Morocco midfielder Ayyoub Bouaddi. In the African nation’s opening game against Brazil, the 18-year-old talent embodied his team’s fearless performance against the World Cup heavyweights and spent much of the match outplaying the star-studded opposition. The Lille talent seems to be on the cusp of greatness for his national team and, to no great surprise, many of Europe’s biggest clubs are taking notice.
“As a French football fan, I'm quite disappointed to see him go for another team other than France,” noted Ronan Caroff, French Area Manager, when he discussed Bouaddi’s introduction to the World Cup on this week’s Market Values podcast. “But of course, with how stacked the French midfield is and the level that Bouaddi has shown already with Lille for the past few seasons, it makes sense that Morocco will come knocking on his door and probably attract him with more playing time early on. And so far, the bet seems to have been successful with his performances in the pre-World Cup friendlies. And then in his first game with Brazil, he was already given a lot of responsibility, and he’s shown the same qualities that he has with Lille so far.”

Despite coming through the youth ranks at Lille and playing at every youth level for the French national team, Bouaddi opted to declare for Morocco when he made his debut for the African nation earlier this year. And while it’s hard to envisage the Lille star staking a claim in Didier Deschamp’s starting XI at this World Cup, some French fans will surely wonder whether their nation will come to regret letting the Ligue 1 opt for the nation of his parents rather than the one of his birth due to his remarkable potential.
“He offers a lot of calm in the midfield,” notes Caroff, when asked about Bouaddi’s main attributes as a player. “Compared to his age, you would expect, probably, a player of his age to, I would say, make more mistakes. But he's playing beyond his age. He's very composed, calm and already a leader in the midfield in some way. He really dictates the pace of the game. So he’s really an interesting player. And for sure, if he creates more of the same type of performances as he did against Brazil, I think that will bring a lot of attention around him for this transfer window.”

That seems like a certainty, if the Transfermarkt rumour mill is anything to go by. According to Bouaddi rumours page, the 18-year-old talent has been linked with moves to Bayern Munich, Paris Saint-Germain, Arsenal and Barcelona since the start of 2026. That, alongside his impressive performances for Lille, have seen his market value skyrocket by €22m in the past 12 months to where it now stands at an impressive €50m. That makes Bouaddi the most valuable player at Lille, the second most valuable player for Morocco, but also, impressively, the most valuable midfielder aged 19 or younger in the world. Despite that, Caroff believes a bidding war for the midfielder’s signature this summer could see a potential transfer fee go well beyond his current market value.
“In France, which has been rumbling away before the World Cup started and for a few months now, we've heard rumours around interest from PSG,” adds Caroff. "I think he will demand a fee that will easily go quite higher than his current market value, because Lille have been known to not really bargain for their top talents. There have routinely been really high fees for players who were really essential to their team. And especially if there is a bit of a bidding war for Bouaddi, then that will probably push the fee even higher.” So which club is in pole position to sign the Moroccan star after the World Cup?
“I think it will be interesting to see which club can make room for him,” added Caroff. “I mentioned PSG, but they already have quite a stacked midfield with Vitinha, Joao Neves, Warren Zaïre-Emery, Fabian Ruiz, and of course, Bouaddi won't be sitting on the bench if he joins such a team. So it's also a matter of how the team will adapt their strategy to make room for a talent like him. I think there is a chance that the fee could rise to maybe €70-80m easily, especially if his World Cup is really impressive and he has a lot of great games. If Morocco goes far enough – the quarterfinals, semi-finals, something like that – then that will probably put Bouaddi even more on the map than he already is. I think there's a chance that he really becomes one of the main transfer sagas of the summer transfer window, and his contract runs until 2029 at Lille. So if he has to go this summer, that won't be for a really low fee. That’s for sure.”
