Based on the number and quality of chances they have had, a team historically would have scored 13 more goals than Palace have in their 24 Premier League games (25 goals vs an xG of 38.0).

Jean-Philippe Mateta has been the chief culprit for Palace's scoring struggles, scoring four goals fewer than expected.

Mateta is the biggest xG underperformer in the Premier League this season – and only three players have been more wasteful in Europe's top five leagues.

While only six players have scored more than his eight goals in the Premier League this season, only Erling Haaland and Igor Thiago have a higher xG than Mateta (12.0).
