Sébastien Pocognoli has called for a reaction from his players, following AS Monaco’s surprise 4-1 defeat at the hands of Paris FC last Friday. That result ended a seven-game winning run for Monaco and put them on the back foot in the quest for UEFA Champions League qualification. With five games remaining, Les Monégasques are seventh but just four points off the podium.
“No further margin for error? I would agree,” said Monaco’s Jordan Teze, speaking in Friday’s press conference, attended by Get French Football News. “We are close. Some big matches to come. Everything is possible. We can win all of the matches to come, but we take it game by game.”
No need to ‘reconsider everything’ says Monaco manager
In any case, Sébastien Pocognoli is clear in what he wants from his players after last weekend’s poor result. “We have to react,” said the Belgian, who added that, despite conceding four goals at the Stade Jean Bouin, there is no reason to “reconsider everything” when it comes to preparing Sunday’s match against AJ Auxerre.
Pocognoli added, “We have five matches remaining. We know that we are starting with a deficit of points. You have to put in a run and wait for the other matches. Want to focus on this run, as we did before. That this run ends, it happens to every club. When it stops, you learn a lot. It is about how to use this defeat to finish the season well and improve what needs to be improved.”
