Carlos Augusto has declared his happiness at Inter Milan while leaving a telling sliver of uncertainty about his future, admitting that in football, you can never fully predict what might happen next, amid links to Roma.
The Brazil defender spoke to SportMediaset after Inter’s 3-0 victory over Cagliari, which extended the Nerazzurri’s lead at the top of Serie A and moved them closer to the Scudetto with five games remaining.
On the title race and the atmosphere at San Siro, Carlos Augusto was careful not to get carried away, via FCInterNews.
“It is clearly a beautiful atmosphere and I am happy for the fans, it has not been an easy season.
“But what I always say is that it is not over yet. There are five matches left and the Coppa Italia too. We must do our best until we are there mathematically.”

He then pointed to the importance of the international break in resetting the squad’s mentality after a difficult mid-season patch.
“Before the break we suffered a little. But I think the break was a good period to clear our heads for the matches that were coming.
“I have been here three years, some of them have been playing together for much longer. When we put it in our heads that we want something, we can make the difference.”
On the Coppa Italia semi-final against Como, his determination was clear.
“We play every competition to win. We have this great opportunity but we know Como’s quality. They will come here to play their game. However, we must show our strength again and do everything to reach the final.”
When asked directly whether he would like to stay, Carlos Augusto opened the door without walking through it.
“I am well here, I am well with the group, I have found great friends. But we know how football works. I like to live in the present. I am playing a lot, we have this end of season, I have the possibility of the national team. Then I will think about what happens.”
Pressed on what could prompt a change of mind or club, he was equally elusive.
“It is difficult. I am happy here, but you never know what can happen in football. I want to think about that afterwards.”
