Xabi Alonso had been linked to Milan, but after the Italian reports he was close to Chelsea, now more sources are confident he has agreed terms with the Premier League side.

The 44-year-old coach is currently out of work, as his experience with Real Madrid was cut short on January 12 thanks to a sudden dismissal.

He had overseen 20 wins, three draws and five defeats for the Merengues, but clashes with the players prompted his sacking.

Before that, Xabi Alonso had taken Bayer Leverkusen to a domestic Treble, denied the Europa League by the 3-0 Final defeat to Atalanta in 2024.

It had been reported earlier this month that Xabi Alonso was a candidate for the Milan job if Max Allegri was sacked, as he had already been approached in the past.

However, the Italian sources also noted that Chelsea were leading that particular race for his signature.

Now French reporter Fabrice Hawkins of RMC Sport maintains that Chelsea have shaken hands with the Spanish coach, agreeing personal terms for next season.

He is no stranger to the Premier League, having worn the Liverpool jersey from 2004 to 2009.
