Real Madrid’s slump in form is costing the team dearly, and they are now all set to go trophy-less for the second season in a row.

The men in white are currently eleven points behind Barcelona in the league standings, and there is not much reason left to cheer in the competition. Further, Kylian Mbappe is now injured and his participation in the upcoming games is uncertain.

Now, as per reports in Spain (via RM4Arab), another key Real Madrid player is not fit and is thus training away from the group.

The captain is out

Real Madrid captain Dani Carvajal did not train with the team earlier today due to a bruise on his left foot.

Carvajal has not enjoyed much prominence under Alvaro Arbeloa, but his presence in the squad continues to be key for both the experience he brings to the dressing room and the depth he provides in defence. Having him fit, thus, is crucial.

With Real Madrid’s next game close to a week away, the veteran has ample time to recover from his injury and be available for selection. Given that it is just a bruise, one would expect the prognosis to be favourable.

The coming games could be Carvajal’s final games as a Real Madrid player, and it is clear that fans across the globe would like to see more of him before he possibly leaves the club in June.

He is, after all, a legend of the game and his place in the FIFA World Cup squad for Spain may well depend on his minutes over the next month.
