Real Madrid are looking for two qualities in their next manager – experience and a history of success. After all, those are the two qualities that are required to command respect in a dressing room as full of superstars as Real Madrid’s.
Needless to say, not many candidates come to mind as having both the requirements that Real Madrid prioritise. Lionel Scaloni, Didier Deschamps, Jurgen Klopp and Jose Mourinho, however, have emerged as possible options.
Of them, Klopp and Mourinho stand as the top candidates whom Real Madrid prefer, although both managers are in strikingly different situations.
The former is the dream target but difficult to convince, while the latter is easier to reach an agreement with.
Negotiations with Mourinho
As reported by Romain Molina in a recent update, meetings have been ongoing in the Real Madrid offices in recent days over Mourinho’s arrival.

Jorge Mendes, who serves as Mourinho’s agent, has been in talks with the club and there has been progress made behind the scenes. Needless to say, news of active negotiations with his agent comes as a major update.
Concurrently, however, Real Madrid also appear to be in talks with Jurgen Klopp’s entourage over a potential move, and they are looking to keep talks ongoing on both fronts until they identify the best fit.
As reported earlier today, Klopp is expected to accept Real Madrid’s offer in the summer. If indeed so, the club may well tilt towards the German coach and do away with the Mourinho plans.
What Los Blancos will not want, however, is eliminating Mourinho as an option before Klopp officially commits as they will then be left in no man’s land. A final decision will likely be made after the season.
