Ranieri has his say after Roma exit: ‘A unilateral decision’
Ranieri has officially left his position as Roma’s senior advisor following a public falling-out with head coach Gian Piero Gasperini over the last few weeks. Ranieri recently gave a particularly critical interview and claimed that Gasperini was not in the club’s top three candidates to come in as head coach at the end of last season.

This led to an irreparable rift between the coach and advisor, and with the two reportedly no longer speaking to each other at the club’s training ground, the situation quickly became untenable.
Ultimately, the club have decided to side with the coach rather than their advisor on this occasion.
Ranieri has since released a short statement to Italy’s leading news agency ANSA, explaining that his departure was a ‘unilateral decision’.
“The termination of my role as senior advisor was due to a unilateral decision from the club,” the statement read.
He noted that his departure was due to: “A duty to transparency, clarity in my actions, fidelity and the truth of facts and a love for the shirt that feels like a second skin.”
Lastly, Ranieri expressed his thanks to various parts of the club, including the owners, employees and the supporters, but unsurprisingly, there was no specific mention of Gasperini.
Ranieri said that he wanted to: “Thank the Friedkin family, the team, the employees and the entire Giallorossi support for the immense affection they’ve shown over the years, which has always been fully reciprocated. Forza Roma sempre.”
