Given the numbers Marcus Rashford has produced for Barcelona, it seemed certain beyond doubt that the club would make his signing permanent in June.

After all, the purchase clause on the player is set at just €30 million, and it is completely in their hands to make his move permanent.

In recent weeks, however, doubts have grown once again, and it is suddenly unclear if Barcelona still value the player enough to sign him permanently.

A second loan has been spoken of instead, especially given the club’s financial situation and the player’s waning importance.

Irritation in Manchester

As reported by Samuel Luckhurst, Manchester United are annoyed by Barcelona’s attempts to lowball them in the negotiations for Rashford.

They see the €30 million price tag to be a bargain and do not understand why the club are continually pushing for a second loan or a reduction in the agreed fee.

There are, thus, sudden doubts on whether or not to keep the player in Spain for next season. After all, they can recall him if the clause is not triggered, and they are under no compulsion to accept Barcelona’s proposed discounts.

Rashford, for his part, is clear that he wishes to stay at the club and has spoken multiple times about how he feels comfortable in Catalonia.

With Flick giving the green light for his continuity, it remains to be seen how the Barcelona administration convince the Red Devils to make it work.

So far this season, Rashford has scored seven goals and provided six assists in La Liga in 28 appearances and 15 starts. He also racked up an additional five goals and three assists in the UEFA Champions League.
