The dust has now well and truly settled from the pulsating 3-3 draw that Manchester City played out against Everton at the Hill Dickinson Stadium on Monday night. Pep Guardiola’s side dropped two points in the title race and have handed the initiative to Arsenal. City now sit five points behind Mikel Arteta’s side on the Premier League table, with a game in hand, and if Arsenal win their remaining three Premier League games, they will be crowned champions. That is the reality of the situation that City are facing in the title race. However, Pep Guardiola’s side remain in the fight for the Premier League title despite their costly draw against Everton.
All Manchester City can do is continue to fight following their setback against Everton.
To have any chance of winning the Premier League title this season, Manchester City simply must win their remaining four games of the season. They also have to rely on Arsenal dropping points against West Ham, Burnley or Fulham. The Arsenal side of the equation is out of Manchester City’s hands. However, City simply have to pick themselves up following their draw against Everton. Pep Guardiola’s side cannot afford to dwell on the result of Monday night’s match against Everton.
Manchester City simply has to continue to fight from this point onward. They did that against Everton at the Hill Dickinson Stadium. When City fell 3-1 behind in the 81st minute to Everton, it seemed that City’s title hopes would end against David Moyes’ side. But Pep Guardiola’s side found a way to salvage a point. Late goals from Erling Haaland and Jeremy Doku earned City a point. That point could prove to be invaluable come the end of this season. More important than that, the fight City showed to salvage a point is exactly what they need to show in their remaining four games of the Premier League season.
Pep Guardiola knows his team has to fight on and see where it leads.
Speaking after Manchester City drew 3-3 with Everton, Pep Guardiola acknowledged that all City can do is fight on and see what happens. Their Premier League title destiny is out of their hands, but the title race isn’t over yet. The Manchester City manager explained: “It’s better to have a point than no point. It would be better to win the game than have the point. Many things happened. We know the difficulty of the opponent, they are incredibly aggressive.”
“We were there in the first half and exceptional, then in the second half they make a step up. We played with good process but maybe not the intention we had in the first half. We gave away the first goal then from the corner they are so good, David Moyes always is with set-pieces. It was open to transition and we had chances.“
“We had momentum and two goals, the third was outstanding. We take a point. It was in our hands before this game but now it’s not. Prepare for Brentford. We will continue and see what happens.”
Manchester City lost control of their destiny with their 3-3 draw against Everton. Arsenal now control the Premier League title race. Despite this, City have to fight on from this point. Hope isn’t lost for Pep Guardiola’s side at this point. The fight continues for City this Saturday against Brentford at the Etihad. Manchester City have to be up for the fight and pick up three points against Keith Andrews’ high-flying side. If City can do that, they can turn the pressure back onto Arsenal as the title race isn’t over yet, although City now do not control their own destiny.
