Can the Red Devils edge closer to sealing their UEFA Champions League return? We look ahead to Monday’s Premier League clash at Old Trafford with our Manchester United vs Brentford prediction and preview.

Man Utd vs Brentford Key Stats

  • Manchester United beat Brentford in over half of the Opta supercomputer’s pre-match simulations (51.5%).
  • Brentford are looking to complete the league double over Man Utd for just the second time, previously doing so in the 1936-37 season.
  • Bruno Fernandes has 18 Premier League assists this term. Only three players have registered more in a single campaign: Thierry Henry (20 in 2002-03), Kevin De Bruyne (20 in 2019-20) and Mesut Özil (19 in 2015-16).

Manchester United look to take a step closer towards securing Champions League qualification, while avoiding their third defeat in as many meetings with draw specialists Brentford.

With sixth-place Brighton and Hove Albion – who are eight points behind United with four matches remaining – not in action this weekend, Michael Carrick’s side could all but seal their return to European club football’s top table on Monday.

The Red Devils were beaten 3-1 in September’s reverse fixture at Gtech Community Stadium, where they also lost 4-3 in the two teams’ previous encounter in May 2025.

United’s defeats in those last two league meetings with Brentford are more than they suffered in their previous 11 (W8 D2). Although, not since the 1936-37 have the Bees completed their only ever league double over them.

Carrick’s side were beaten 2-1 by a resurgent Leeds United last time out at Old Trafford, where they have not suffered back-to-back defeats since the end of last season.

However, they bounced back with a hard-earned 1-0 victory over Chelsea last weekend, in what proved to be Liam Rosenior’s penultimate match in charge of the Blues.

That was despite United facing 17 more shots than they had themselves (four attempts, 21 faced), their biggest shot deficit in a Premier League game since April 2024 against Liverpool (19).

In teeing up the winner for Matheus Cunha at Stamford Bridge, Bruno Fernandes recorded his 18th Premier League assist of the campaign, with only three players ever registering more goals in a single season: Thierry Henry (20 in 2002-03), Kevin De Bruyne in 2019-20 for Manchester City (20 in 2019-20), and Mesut Özil (19 in 2015-16).

Bruno Fernandes Assists Premier League 2025-26

United have now scored in each of their last 21 Premier League matches; their longest streak during the post-Alex Ferguson era – last bettering that run between November 2012 and April 2013 (23).

They will look to extend it in what will be their sixth Premier League game played on a Monday this season; their most in a single campaign since 1995-96 (also six) and last playing more in 1992-93 (seven).

Yet it will not be easy against a side who, since February’s 2-0 defeat to Brighton, have not trailed for a single minute in any of their last six Premier League matches; last doing seven such games during the 2022-23 season.

Just two points behind the Seagulls and with a game in hand, Brentford are still well in the hunt to secure European qualification for the first time in their history.

If they are to do so, though, Keith Andrews’ side must start turning their recent draws into wins.

Indeed, the Bees have drawn their last five Premier League games, with Manchester City the last team to record a longer run in the division (seven between October and November 2009).

Shay Given was the Citizens’ first choice between the sticks that season, recording 10 clean sheets on the way. He is the last goalkeeper from the Republic of Ireland to hit double figures for clean sheets in a single Premier League campaign, yet Caoimhín Kelleher could match that if he keeps United out here.

Brentford will make the trip to Old Trafford without the likes of Jordan Henderson, Vitaly Janelt and Rico Henry, while Fábio Carvalho is a long-term absentee.

United, meanwhile, must continue to make do without the suspended Lisandro Martínez. Leny Yoro is doubtful with a knock, and the game is too soon for Matthijs de Ligt and Patrick Dorgu.

Man Utd vs Brentford Head-to-Head

Man Utd have lost their last two league games against Brentford, more than in the previous 11 meetings between the sides (W8 D2).

The Bees are looking to complete only their second league double over the Red Devils, having also achieved the feat during the 1936-37 season.
