Lynch unhappy with key calls in draw with Bohs

Derry City manager Tiernan Lynch felt several key decisions went against his side in their 1-1 draw away to Bohemians in the League of Ireland Premier Division.

The Candystripes were reduced to 10 men with eight minutes to play as Adam O'Reilly picked up a second yellow card for a foul on Adam McDonnell.

From the next play the visitors were infuriated that the home side were not reduced to 10, as Patrick Hickey caught the ball with his hands in mid-air with Dipo Akinyemi seemingly through on goal had the play been allowed to develop

Hickey was shown a yellow card by match referee Rob Harvey for his part in the incident.

"I've watched both incidents back now and I just can't see where that second yellow card came from," Lynch told BBC Sport NI's Eric White.

"In my opinion, having watched it back and having watched it back in slow motion again, I just don't see where the referee gets that from.

"I'm actually not going to comment on the Patrick Hickey one. I'm going to wait patiently to see what comes back and the feedback from that, because there has to be questions asked and that has to be brought forward.

"The last man through on goal, catches the ball, throws it behind him and it's a yellow card. I probably need that explained to me," the Derry boss continued.

"As I say, I think answers need to be made here. We definitely have to hear what the thought process was in that because every single person in the stadium has seen what happened apart from the referee."

'That's actually a very disappointed changing room'

James Olayinka gave Derry a first-half lead with his first goal for the club, before Marcus Strods levelled early in the second to secure a share of the spoils.

"That's actually a very disappointed changing room and a very frustrated changing room. We thought that the first half we probably should have put ourselves further ahead and we didn't. The second half we huffed and we puffed," Lynch added.

"Although the positives of it was, I think, the character that those boys showed in the end to make sure that they didn't lose that game after going a man down. I thought they were superb.

"I couldn't be any prouder of them. We'll not shy away from the goal that we conceded which was a terrible goal on our part. Again, we talk about that fight, that hunger and that heart pulling that shirt over your head."

One positive for Lynch's side was the return from injury of captain Michael Duffy, who came on as a second-half substitute for his first minutes since March.

"Obviously, we have to be very careful with Michael (Duffy). He's been out for nearly five weeks. They've done a brilliant job getting him back as quickly as they have," Lynch continued.

"It would have been nicer to get him on earlier or even start him but that's something that has to be managed."
