The Times is one of several outlets reporting that FIFA are proposing a new ruling for professional football. They want teams to have at least one homegrown, Under 21 player on the pitch at all times.
It's something that would revolutionise squad construction. Clubs would need not only a couple of elite homegrown talents but also a group for their bench for substitutions.
And it's also something that may just get some smiles from Liverpool – this rule has fantastic timing for them. After all, Rio Ngumoha would be their qualification for the rule if it were to come into effect in any of the next three years.
