Mohamed Salah is undoubtedly one of Liverpool’s best ever players.

The Egyptian King had his best ever season for the Reds last term as he contributed to over 50 goals across all competitions.

And, when the 2025-26 campaign first started, most fans thought that the same version of the attacker would re-emerge.

However, that has been far from the case with his poor performances even resulting in his contract with Liverpool being mutually terminated at the end of the current campaign.

Many of them would be spectacular signings for the Anfield outfit but, since the club have seemingly been handed a boost in their chase for one of their reported targets, he could be the first player that Liverpool try and go for.

Anthony Gordon has been left out of Newcastle's squad for their game vs Bournemouth

Anthony Gordon's future has been a major topic of conversation in the footballing world over the last few weeks.

Liverpool and Bayern Munich have both been linked with an interest in the versatile Englishman with Newcastle having to raise funds due to their PSR woes once again.

Eddie Howe chose to spend an extortionate amount of money on new attackers in the summer but, since Yoanne Wissa and Nick Woltemade have failed to live up to expectation, Gordon has been their main man.

And, since Newcastle are currently 14th in the Premier League table, there's little-to-no chance of them earning a European place next term.

This is far from ideal for someone with Gordon's talent and, seeing as though Howe admitted he can only start players who are fully committed to his team, it feels like the Reds have been handed a massive boost in their transfer chase for him after he was left out of the Magpies' squad vs Bournemouth.

The Telegraph journalist Luke Edwards shared an insight into Gordon’s future via his personal X account and, in all honesty, it feels like the attacker could be on his way out of St James’ Park this summer.

"Anthony Gordon not involved against Bournemouth 24 hours after Eddie Howe said he can only pick players who are totally committed to the club," he wrote.

"Not a great look in that context but official reason given is a slight hip injury."

Anthony Gordon would be the perfect replacement for Mohamed Salah

Even though Gordon would cost Liverpool around £80 million to sign this summer, it’s hard to deny that he wouldn’t be a perfect signing for the club.

The Anfield outfit have been in dire need of a creative spark this season and, since the attacker is one of the best players in the Premier League for turning nothing chances into potential goals, he's exactly what they need.

The fact that he can play anywhere across the front three is also another major selling point as it means that, if Liverpool suffered any injuries across the season, they'd have a back-up ready and waiting.

Gordon's connection with Alexander Isak last term was also a sight to behold with the duo becoming one of the Premier League’s best pairings.

Indeed, a fair few players would have to be moved on by Liverpool to make this transfer a reality but, since Gordon is only 25 years old and already has an abundance of top flight experience, there's not really a better option to replace Salah than the former Everton ace.
