As many as 13 years after his departure from the Santiago Bernabeu, Jose Mourinho is once again grabbing all the headlines at Real Madrid.

What started as a mere speculation appears to have turned into a full-blown possibility, as Los Blancos continue to scour the market for a new manager.

With most gifted or proven managers already on assignment at various clubs, Real Madrid’s hands are tied, which is why they are looking to a familiar figure to solve the ongoing mess at the Bernabeu.

Indeed, the possibility of Mourinho returning for a second spell at Real Madrid has gathered steam in recent days, with SL Benfica now reportedly kickstarting their search for a replacement.

Mourinho’s return would depend on Klopp

However, journalist Miguel Serrano has stated that Mourinho’s potential return to the Bernabeu would depend on one key factor: the future of Jurgen Klopp.

It is no secret that Klopp is currently Real Madrid’s desired option to become the new head coach, and is arguably the best manager the team could possibly have right now.

However, the former Liverpool and Borussia Dortmund coach is currently posted at Red Bull, where he oversees operations across the franchise’s football teams around the globe.

There have been conflicting reports about whether or not Klopp wants to leave Red Bull. Even if he does, Real Madrid would have to make many sacrifices by giving the German more decision-making abilities.

If Real Madrid reach an agreement with Klopp, they will no longer pursue Mourinho and the Portuguese tactician can then continue his spell at Benfica.

To that end, the former Chelsea manager has set a strict deadline to decide his future, as he is not overly keen on breaking his contract at Benfica either.
