Ahead of Stade Rennais’ upcoming Ligue 1 clash against Paris FC, Esteban Lepaul (26) was asked about his prospects of being selected to represent the French national team. The striker has gained plaudits this season for his goalscoring exploits, which have seen him enter the frame as a potential option for Didier Deschamps ahead of the FIFA World Cup 2026.
Lepaul has been clinical in the French top flight this term. The Frenchman currently tops the goalscoring charts in Ligue 1, with 19 goals in 30 appearances. He has also contributed 5 assists whilst representing Les Rouges et Noirs. His next closest challenger for the golden boot with two games to go is Strasbourg manager Joaquin Panichelli, with 16 goals, and who is currently out injured.
Lepaul dreaming of France call-up
During the press conference, the forward discussed the significance of potentially representing his country, but understood it isn’t guaranteed. The 26-year-old said, “It’s the holy grail to be called up to the French national team.” He added, “If I get called up, great. If not, as I’ve always done, I will keep working every day to try and get there.”
