Serie A side Inter have come just a bit closer to winning the title after Napoli’s failure to beat Como. Their match towards silverware is also just a confirmation that Manuel Akanji will join them permanently from Manchester City.
The Swiss defender arrived on loan from the Citizens in the summer. La Gazzetta dello Sportnote that Inter had a conditional obligation to buy which could be triggered on two conditions – if Cristian Chivu’s side won Serie A and the defender played 50 percent of games in the season.
The second condition was met last month and only the formality of the Scudetto win is left. Because of that, the ex-Borussia Dortmund man will sign a contract until 2028 and Manchester City will earn €15 million from the transfer.
This also rules out that Benjamin Pavard has a future at the Nerazzurri, even if he seems set to return from the loan at Marseille at the end of the season.
Akanji has been a regular across the backline for Inter. More than that, they will lose Stefan De Vrij and Francesco Acerbi this season, with rumours also doubting Alessandro Bastoni’s future. This makes Akanji a pillar that will be relied up on for the next few seasons.
