Julian Alvarezhas a €500m release clause but it is expected, if he were to leave this summer, it would more likely be for a deal in the region of €100m, allowing Atletico Madrid to still turn a profit on a player they signed from Manchester City in 2024 for around £64.4m with add-ons taking it up to £81.5m.
Arsenal’s interest in Alvarez is long-standing. They considered a move last year and remain keen on a player who offers precisely the kind of high-level, versatile attacking quality Mikel Arteta values.
Ahead of Arsenal’s first leg of their Champions League semi-final against Atletico, Diego Simeone was asked about the interest in his star player.

“I am not in Julian Alvarez’s head.
“I just suppose it is normal. He is an extraordinary player. There is interest from Arsenal, Paris Saint-Germain, Barcelona and other teams. But it is nothing we are concerned about.”
Asked in March whether he would still be at Atletico next season, Alvarez said: “Maybe yes, maybe no,” adding: “You never know.”
Arteta was also asked about Arsenal’s interest in Alvarez and replied, as you’d expect him to. “You know that I don’t talk about any player that is not our player,” he said.
Alvazrez, now 26 and valued at around €90m, is under contract until 2030.
He has 19 goals and nine assists in 47 games this season.
For City, he scored 36 goals, with 19 assists, in 103 games.
