Guernsey FC are hoping for promotion back to the eighth tier of English football after relegation last season [BBC]

Guernsey FC left it late to ensure a home play-off tie as they beat relegated Lancing 3-0 in their final regular season game.

The draw means the Green Lions – who have won just two of their last six games – consolidate third place in the Southern Combination Premier Division.

They will host Horhsam YM in their semi-final at Victoria Park on Saturday 2 May as they aim for an immediate return to the eighth tier of English football.

The Green Lions made a good start in what was a goalless first half as they hit the crossbar twice in a minute.

First Callum Le Lacheur struck the frame of the goal with a 16th-minute effort before Chalton Gauvain did the same seconds later.

Guernsey somehow managed to fail to score seven minutes after the break when Gauvain's corner caused chaos in the box, and after Lancing cleared two efforts off the line Sam Murray fired against the bar.

Josh Addison made a couple of good saves to keep Guernsey in the game before his side finally took the lead.

Substitute George Goubert beat his man, cut inside and fired in low for his second goal of the season with 11 minutes to go.

Ross Allen forced a good save three minutes later before Matt Loaring made the points safe as he scored in the 88th minute.

The long-serving midfielder got the final touch on Sam Murray's near-post flick after a Jamie Dodd long throw before top scorer Murray headed in a third in stoppage time from another Dodd throw in.
