Gonçalo Ramos joins AC Milan for club record fee – PSG paid €65m in 2024

AC Milan confirmed the signing of Gonçalo Ramos from Paris Saint-Germain for a club-record transfer, on Tuesday. According to reports, the fee will be €74m plus add-ons. That’s the highest fee paid for a forward by a Serie A club since Inter Milan signed Romelu Lukaku for €74m from Man United in 2020 (overview). The fee will eclipse the €49.5m Milan paid to Lille to sign Rafael Leão from Lille the same summer.
In a post on social media, the Portugal international thanked PSG for his time at the club, where he won three Ligue 1 titles and two Champions Leagues. "Today I am leaving, but I am leaving a piece of my heart at this club," said the striker. "PSG will always be home to me, and I will take pride in having helped write a chapter of its history.
Since joining PSG for €65m from Benfica in 2024, Ramos has managed just 45 goals and provided 10 assists in 131 games across all competitions. Initially hailed as the perfect No. 9 for Luis Enrique, Ousmane Dembélé has mostly led his attack. Indeed, Ramos appears to be a poor fit for Enrique’s high-pressure pressing style of football, given the presence of three flexible attacking players. As a result, his market value has dropped from a high €50m to just €30m.

Ramos headed to Milan: A sign of growing ambitions?
Milan, in the meantime, are desperate for fresh blood. Milan missed out on Champions League football and have since appointed former Man United head coach Ruben Amorim. Amorim knows Ramos well from Portuguese football, and the striker believes that Milan will be the ideal place to restart a career that has hit a major roadblock at PSG. With the club recently announcing a new leadership structure and appointing Amorim, the Ramos signing is supposed to be a signal that the club has ambitious goals for the upcoming season.
