Wolverhampton Wanderers’ inevitable relegation from the English Premier League was confirmed on Monday evening after West Ham United’s draw with Crystal Palace. While it’s now mathematically impossible for Wolves to avoid the drop, the writing has firmly been on the wall since the early weeks of the season. It took until January and their 20th game of the campaign to secure their first win and although there’s been improvement since Rob Edwards arrived, Wolves will play in the second tier of English football next season for the first time since 2018.

Standings

In a statement, Wolves interim executive director Nathan Shi stated: "Confirmation of our relegation is a difficult moment for everyone connected to Wolves. While this is a deeply disappointing outcome, work has been underway since my arrival in December to ensure we are ready to respond with clarity and conviction. We know this season has tested your loyalty and patience. Your backing, home and away, has not been taken for granted.” While planning for life in the English Championship has been in progress for several months, Wolves will realistically lose their star players this summer and we’ve analysed four that could remain in the Premier League.

Four Wolves stars on the radars of Premier League clubs

Market Value

João GomesJ. Gomes

Central Midfield

€35.00m

João Gomes is certain to depart Molineux this summer and he is Wolves’ most valuable asset with a market value of €35 million. The 25-year-old will likely be part of Carlo Ancelotti’sBrazil squad at the World Cup and he won’t want to play in the English Championship next season. Gomes has an excellent age profile and will be very appealing for a host of European clubs due to Wolves’ predicament. Manchester United have been heavily linked previously and he could represent a cost-effective option as they target at least two new central midfielders this season.

Market Value

AndréAndré

Defensive Midfield

€25.00m

Like Gomes, André is also a full Brazilian international with 13 caps to his name. The midfielder has been of Wolves’ best performers this season and he won’t be short of offers this summer. Liverpool scouted the 24-year-old extensively when he was at Fluminense before he joined Wolves in 2024 and they could revive their interest. André has also been linked with Galatasaray and Juventus this season.

Market Value

Mateus ManéM. Mané

Attacking Midfield

€20.00m

Mateus Mané has been the breakthrough star for Wolves this campaign and he’s being monitored by a host of Premier League giants. The 18-year-old’s market value has soared from €250k to €20m and he’s earned international recognition with Portugal. Mané is contracted until 2028 and could feel that it’s best for his development to play regularly with Wolves in the Championship but they will field offers for him this summer.

Market Value

Rodrigo GomesR. Gomes

Left Midfield

€15.00m

Rodrigo Gomes doesn’t carry the profile of the aforementioned trio but he’s quietly impressed this season despite Wolves’ struggles. He was signed from Braga for €15m in 2024 and he required time to adapt to the demands of Premier League football. Gomes is extremely versatile and he gained prominence after scoring goals in consecutive wins over Aston Villa and Liverpool. The 22-year-old has amassed 15 caps for Portugal’s U21s and it’s understood that several Premier League clubs have scouted him extensively.
