An exciting forward sensation is coming to replace Alexander Isak.
The Reds have endured a remarkably unlucky season when it comes to their striker options, with injuries consistently disrupting any sense of stability in the no.9 role. What should have been a position of strength that Liverpool spent almost £200m on in the summer has instead become a major concern, largely due to circumstances beyond the club’s control.
It began with Alexander Isak, who has spent a significant portion of the campaign sidelined. His absence deprived Liverpool of a dynamic, mobile forward capable of stretching defences and leading the line effectively.
Just as hopes were rising with his return to fitness, another setback followed.
Hugo Ekitike, brought in to provide depth and competition and then becoming the main man, suffered a serious injury that has ruled him out for the remainder of this season and a large part of the next.
The timing could hardly have been worse, arriving just as Isak was working his way back into contention and the team looked close to regaining balance in attack.
Now, in another cruel twist, Isak is set to miss one to two weeks with a fresh issue, leaving Liverpool once again without a recognised striker. The constant disruptions have made it nearly impossible to build rhythm or consistency in the attacking line.
As a result, Liverpool have been forced to improvise, highlighting just how unfortunate their situation has been throughout the season.
But fear no more, because every injury is an opportunity for someone else.
And right now there is a young player at Liverpool who is becoming a bit of a sensation and definitely ready to come into the team and make an impact.
Will Wright joined Liverpool in the summer and he has settled in immediately.
The youngster wasn’t short on experience even before his move at senior level, having already featured for Salford City. Remarkably, he achieved that while still only 16 making his debut in the FA Cup last season at that age, incidentally the only other 16-year-old to play in the FA Cup's third round last season was Rio Ngumoha.
At academy level Wright has dominated as well, he scored over 40 goals for Salford's youth sides and really caught the attention of Europe's elite.
Arsenal wanted to sign him, but Wright chose Liverpool.
Wright adapted quickly after arriving, too. He was handed a first-team opportunity in a pre-season clash against Athletic Bilbao on the day his transfer was confirmed and very nearly marked his debut with a goal.
That was a glimpse of what he could offer.
