We've got the first real sign that Arne Slot is to leave Liverpool Football Club.
Is Arne Slot leaving Liverpool? That remains a little unclear but the pressure is certainly on after a very poor second season in charge at Anfield.
The Reds have lost 18 times in this campaign – the most in a season since Rafa Benitez was sacked. And there are still three to play.
But despite the terrible form, Liverpool have stuck by Slot. Whether they do that beyond the summer is another matter, however, and we're all waiting to see what the final decision is.
We may have had a clue, though. Ajax journalist Mike Verweij claims that the Dutch giants approached Slot recently to see if he'd take over in the summer.
He told the Telegraaf podcast that they’re keen on hiring him and made an inquiry. However, Slot is less keen about heading there.
It's an interesting one but the fact that Ajax had any encouragement whatsoever to approach Slot suggests football circles feel he’ll be available. That’s not an approach you make unless you’re semi-confident that he’ll be free to take on a job.
After all, Ajax would not be able to afford a compensation fee to hire Slot from Liverpool. That leads us to believe that they've been told he's free to move.
Maybe it's a weak clue but it's the first we've had. Liverpool are playing this one pretty close to the chest – but Ajax certainly seem to believe a decision has been made.
