Edin Dzeko has publicly urged Tarik Muharemovic to join Inter Milan this summer, with the veteran Bosnian striker drawing on his own experience at the club to back the highly-rated defender to make the move to the Nerazzurri.

Speaking to Corriere dello Sport, via CalcioMercato, Dzeko, now at freshly-promoted Bundesliga side Schalke, was unequivocal in his advice to his international teammate.

“Inter is the right choice for Muharemovic,” he said. “I hope that in the end he goes to Milan. Inter is a top club and in a team like that he can grow and improve. He has a great future ahead of him, he has quality, but he also has the right mentality.”

Dzeko hails Chivu’s ‘incredible’ Inter double as he backs Muharemovic for top level

Dzeko also took the opportunity to defend Inter’s Scudetto and Coppa Italia double under Cristian Chivu, pushing back against suggestions the title was won by default.

“Perhaps some have dwelt on the Champions League elimination, but I think Inter and Chivu had an incredible year,” he said.

“I am very attached to that club, I spent two wonderful years there and I know what it means to play for those colours. You cannot say, as I have heard, that they won because the others were not up to it. I do not see it that way. They won two titles because they deserved it. Everyone, starting with Chivu, did incredible work. A double in your first year is something truly significant and the club is working to keep growing. It is no coincidence.”

Muharemovic is one of the most sought-after young defenders in Serie A.

A left-footed centre-back, he joined Sassuolo in the summer of 2024 for €2 million after being developed by Juventus, who retain a 50% sell-on clause from any future transfer, meaning they stand to receive around €17.5 million should Inter meet Sassuolo’s €35 million asking price.

He has made 62 appearances for the Neroverdi, contributing four goals and four assists, and has earned 12 caps for the Bosnia national team.
