Serie A side Juventus are yet to tie Dusan Vlahovic down to a new contract. His current deal runs out in the summer and so far, there have been no major signs of progress.
La Gazzetta dello Sport have reported that despite the Serbian’s goal against Verona, his stay in Turin remains in doubt. There is a mutual desire to continue and sign a renewal and those around Vlahovic have expressed an openness to sign a short-term renewal.
Five meetings have been held but there remain disagreements over the costs, commissions and signing-on bonuses.
Talks remain ongoing but Juve have made it clear that they won’t go beyond certain figures. There is now considerably less pressure from suitors like Bayern Munich and Milan and the Old Lady want to take advantage of that.
In a way though, a renewal for Vlahovic may not make too much sense for Juve. There is no doubt about his abilities but he has constantly suffered from the club’s lack of stability on the managerial front. This has impacted his numbers and consistency.
But more than that, injury worries have only crept up for the Serbian. He is slightly slower as a footballer than he used to be. It doesn’t end there either, as Vlahovic is currently Juve’s highest wage earner but his impact and fitness doesn’t quite match how much he earns.
He is still only 26 but getting his wages off their books does make sense for the Bianconeri. There is limited guarantee of that money being worth it, especially since those around him demand high commissions and bonuses too.
The way it is going, Luciano Spalletti’s side could be better off signing a younger profile who earns less and offers more.
