Dundee derby 'felt like big loss' but United ready to bounce back

Dundee United midfielder Neil Farrugia admits it's been "tough" around Tannadice following last weekend's derby capitulation but believes they can channel the disappointment in a positive way against Celtic on Sunday.

The Tangerines were 2-0 up going into added time at Dens Park but were left stunned after Dundee netted twice in the final two minutes to earn a draw.

And United manager Jim Goodwin described the late collapse as "pathetic" but Farrugia insists the squad are ready to bounce back.

"It was a tough couple of days after," he said.

"Mentally it was hard to understand what has just happened but football is a mad game and the next game is just around the corner.

"It is about trying to forget what has happened and somehow take all the positives there were in that game because we were comfortable for 90 minutes. It was just right at the end we just lost that bit of concentration.

"That one point is a very tough one point to get, it definitely feels like a big loss and so those points are something that we are after now and what better time to do it than against Celtic at the weekend."

United are seventh in the Premiership table and sit nine points behind Falkirk in sixth with three games to go before the split.

And while finishing in the top six seems highly unlikely, Farrugia insists United's season is not over.

"I think the teams underneath us have done quite well recently and it is not going to be an easy cruise in the last part of the season," he added.

"We have to be at the top of our game to keep the pressure off. Top six is probably just out of reach at this stage but I think as players it is our job to keep going every week and to find that little bit of motivation to keep going.

"And Celtic at the weekend is a great example, it is a big game against a great team and these are the sort of games that you want to play."
