Inter have done The Double, adding the Coppa Italia to the Scudetto this season by sweeping Lazio aside 2-0 in the Final with an Adam Marusic own goal and Lautaro Martinez.

These teams had met here in Serie A only last week, the Nerazzurri running out 3-0 winners, but silverware was at stake and the Stadio Olimpico was technically neutral turf, yet the Aquile fans returned after suspending their boycott. While Inter could do The Double, Maurizio Sarri needed a victory to qualify for the Europa League.

Hakan Calhanoglu was out of action, but Marcus Thuram shrugged off a muscular issue to start. With Ivan Provedel injured, Danilo Cataldi and Nicolò Rovella not at 100 per cent, the Biancocelesti welcomed back Mattia Zaccagni and Nuno Tavares. Maurizio Sarri sat out a touchline ban, so assistant Marco Ianni was on the bench.

See how it all unfolded on the Liveblog.

Lautaro Martinez nodded a Nicolò Barella cross just wide, and the opening goal came moments later in unusual circumstances. Thuram grazed the Federico Dimarco corner with his head, but it was Adam Marusic who nodded it into his own net.

A spectacular Denzel Dumfries volley was charged down on another Dimarco cross, but Dumfries then robbed Nuno Tavares near the penalty area and generously rolled across for Lautaro Martinez to tap in from a couple of yards.

Piotr Zielinski’s daisy-cutter from distance forced a tricky low save out of Edoardo Motta, while Gustav Isaksen’s angled drive was deflected wide off Alessandro Bastoni.

After the restart, Toma Basic had penalty appeals rejected for running into Alessandro Bastoni, but the move continued and Tijjani Noslin drilled inches wide from the edge of the area.

Dimarco almost provided another sensational assist with his volleyed ball across the face of goal, but Luis Henrique couldn’t keep the finish on target.

An acrobatic Manuel Akanji interception prevented Boulaye Dia getting the tap-in at the near post, then moments later Dia sprung the offside trap on a Manuel Lazzari ball over the top, forcing Josep Martinez to rush off his line for a difficult save.

It should’ve been 3-0 late on, but Piotr Zielinski fired wide of an open goal after the Thuram assist was deflected into his path.

There was some tension in a scuffle between Pedro and Dimarco, while Josep Martinez smothered Dia’s header.
