The attacking winger had not been in the Azzurri for several months, as he asked Gennaro Gattuso to leave him out until he managed to regain full fitness with regular playing time at Anfield.

That doesn’t seem to be happening, and he received another sign that it won’t change when he was forced to watch from the bench as Hugo Ekitike went off injured in the opening minutes against Brighton, only for midfielder Curtis Jones to be introduced instead.

It didn’t pay off for Slot, as Liverpool lost 2-1 and the fans raged online against his decision to ignore Chiesa yet again until the final 13 minutes of the match.

Chiesa has now made 31 competitive appearances for Liverpool so far this season, contributing three goals and three assists.

However, he played a total 660 minutes of football, with only four starts this term.
