Barcelona identify four alternatives amid doubts over permanent move for Rashford

With the summer transfer window soon approaching, Barcelona are actively trying to find a solution to the Marcus Rashford problem.

The Englishman has impressed during his loan spell at Barça. But his contract expires at the end of the season, with Barcelona having an option to snap him up for €30 million.

However, given the club’s current financial situation, that figure is proving to be expensive, not helped by the fact that Rashford himself has a hefty package.

This has led to uncertainty as to whether or not Rashford will remain at Barça, effectively forcing the club to scour the market for alternatives.

Barcelona identify four targets

According to Mundo Deportivo, Barcelona have identified several alternatives in case they fail to sign Rashford on a permanent deal.

Two of them are former Barcelona players, Jan Virgili and Ez Abde. Virgili, for one, was one of the most talented players at La Masia before he opted for a move to Mallorca last summer.

Virgili hasn’t failed to impress either, notably racking up six assists in his debut La Liga campaign. At 19, the youngster knows Barcelona well and could be an exciting alternative to Rashford.

Abde, on the other hand, had made 14 appearances for Barça before joining Real Betis in 2023. At Betis, the Moroccan has racked up almost 50 goal involvements, making him one of the most productive players at the club in recent years.

Barcelona are looking at other options, including Norwegian prodigy Andreas Schjelderup. Currently plying his trade for Benfica, Schjelderup has impressed onlookers with his creativity on the flanks and is brimming with potential.

Finally, Barcelona are looking at Victor Munoz, who is also a former member of La Masia. Munoz has been the rising star in La Liga this season, particularly making an impression through his dribbling skills and productivity.

However, Barcelona may have their hands tied in the Munoz pursuit as Real Madrid certain clauses that can help them block a potential return to Catalonia.
